Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to extend the Blue Rail Line from Agbado in Lagos State to Kajola and the Red Line from Okokomaiko also in Lagos to Agbara in Ogun State. This move aims to further improve the state’s transport network.
During an inspection of ongoing road construction projects in Ogun East Senatorial District, Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable development. He highlighted the strides made in transforming the state’s infrastructure, emphasizing the need to sustain these efforts.
The governor noted that Ogun State is positioning itself as an investment hub, with the construction of a dry port and over 4,000 affordable housing units in key locations.
“We have built over 4,000 affordable houses, approaching 5,000, for medium and upper-income earners across the state. In Ilaro, residents are eagerly awaiting the commissioning of these houses. Similar projects are ongoing in Iperu, Sagamu, and two locations in Abeokuta,” Abiodun stated.
He expressed excitement over recent progress, including advancements at the Ogun State airport, where conveyor belts, metal detectors, and luggage scanners are now operational.
Abiodun disclosed that 11 economically significant roads have been identified for reconstruction across the state, ensuring fairness, equity, and inclusivity in project distribution.
He acknowledged, however, that while many roads require attention, no administration could rehabilitate all within an eight-year tenure.
The governor announced that the contract for the 12-kilometre Akaka-Ilara-Ilisan Road has been awarded, with work set to commence soon on the Ode-Isara road.
He described the 15-kilometer Sagamu-Iperu-Ode-Sapaade road as a vital bypass to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, praising residents for their cooperation in relocating structures to accommodate the expansion.
Abiodun assured residents that major roads with economic value in the region would be completed before the end of his administration.
He praised the quality of work on the Igbeba Junction-Yidi road, particularly the three-foot drainage system designed to prevent flooding.
The governor recalled the road’s poor condition before reconstruction, describing it as a “swimming pool,” and assured residents that state engineers have provided long-term solutions to the area’s persistent erosion issues.
Expressing gratitude to the people for their support, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to key sectors, including education, agriculture, youth empowerment, job creation, and infrastructure development, to ensure a prosperous future for Ogun State.
