Ogun State Governor Endorses Southwest Games 2025

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has given his full support to the Southwest Games 2025, describing the event as a transformative initiative poised to create significant opportunities for youth empowerment, talent discovery, and long-term socio-economic growth across the region.

Governor Abiodun made the announcement during a meeting with members of the Organizing Committee, led by its President, Dr. Lanre Alfred, at the State House in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta. To honor the governor’s steadfast commitment to sports and youth development, the delegation presented him with a specially designed tournament jersey.

The Southwest Games 2025 will be held from March 25 to 28, 2025, at Onikan Stadium, Rowe Park, YabaTech, and Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. The event will feature over 1,200 athletes and 120 officials, celebrating sporting excellence across various disciplines. A standout feature of the event will be the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Southwest Alliance Games (BATSWAG), a sub-event focused on nurturing athletes under the age of 18.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that the event aligns with his administration’s vision to position Ogun State as a hub for talent development, tourism, and economic growth. He also underscored the importance of BATSWAG, stating that it would play a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing the next generation of elite athletes.
