First Lady Oluremi Tinubu declared the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship officially open in Abuja, emphasizing that gender is never a limitation to excellence. The two-week tournament features 16 participating teams, including Nigeria’s representatives, the Nigeria Customs Service and the Chief of Naval Staff Strikers.
The First Lady charged the teams to embrace fair play and showcase their skills, elevating the profile of women’s sports on the continent. She noted that the athletes embody the idea of women boldly claiming their space and demonstrating excellence regardless of gender.
Senator Tinubu, who serves as the Grand Patron of the championship, expressed hope and pride in the display of talent gathered in Nigeria’s capital. She urged the athletes to compete with dignity, develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership, and serve as role models for the next generation of African girls.
The championship, which runs until April 14, will determine the two African clubs that will qualify for the upcoming World Women’s Volleyball Club Championship.
