JCI Rockcity Reaffirms Commitment To Elderly Care, Provides Free Medical, Eye Services To Over 200 Residents In Ipokia
JCI Rockcity, a leading community-focused organization, has provided free medical and eye care services to over 200 residents of Ipokia Local Government of Ogun State in its dedication to improving the lives of the elderly.
Our Correspondent gathered that this initiative is part of the organization’s annual JCI Rockcity Health Initiative, titled “Health and Change: Care for the Aged,” in memory of Late Chief Teslim Ishola Adeyanju.
The Outreach which held on Saturday at the Ipokia Community, was monitored by our correspondent, offered comprehensive health services, including comprehensive eye examinations and prescription of glasses, blood pressure monitoring and provision of necessary medications, and blood testing and medication management for conditions such as diabetes and malaria.
The event was witnessed by JCIN Amb. Oluwatoyin Atanda, 2025 National President of JCI Nigeria, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.
While speaking to journalists, JCIN Amb. Atanda said the organization is committed to service to humanity, saying that the initiative was to support government and make meaningful impact to different communities.
Her words “I am very happy to be part of this initiative. The smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries speak volumes. You can see the difference being made, and that alone brings us joy. We also look forward to receiving feedback from them about their health status and how this outreach has helped.”
Amb. Atanda therefore commended members of JCI Rock City, for making the outreach a reality, saying that despite the challenges faced in the country, the local organization commitment to service has remained unwavering.
Also speaking at the event, the 2025 JCI Rockcity President, JCIN Ambassador Seun Adebayo explained that the gesture was to promote good health and well-being, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (UN SDG 3), which focuses on health and well-being for all.”
Amb. Adebayo revealed that the initiative was designed to support the elderly in the community, who often lack access to medical services due to high healthcare costs.
He hinted that many of the elderly have been neglected, and JCI Rockcity believe it’s essential to prioritize their health and well-being, saying that the project brings healthcare closer to them free of charge, so they can receive the care and attention they deserve.
According to him “Over the years, we have carried out similar outreach programs in different parts of Abeokuta. However, this is the first time we are extending our efforts outside Abeokuta to Ipokia, specifically, because we identified a strong need here. We are excited to be here, and we look forward to doing more in other communities as the need arises”.
“As members of JCI, we are committed to service. One of our core values is giving back to the society, and that is what this project represents. You cannot be a true member of JCI without being service-oriented.”
“Through initiatives like this, we not only serve others but also grow as leaders. JCI is a service-driven organization, and part of our responsibility is to identify areas of need in our communities and take action to meet those needs., the President concluded.
The Iyaloja of Ago and the entire Ipokia Local government, Mrs Asabi Aderonmu expressed her appreciation to the JCI Rockcity, saying that she’s very excited to be part of the beneficiaries.
On his parts, Mr Rasaq Adeyanju, son of the late Chief Teslim Ishola Adeyanju, revealed that the initiative was to partner with JCI Rockcity and give back to the community where their late father came from.
Mr Adeyanju explained that their late father passed away in 2008, which makes it about 17 years now since his passing, therefore this year decided to do something different, rather than just gather to pray, they decided to make an impact on the community he loved so much.
