Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assured that his administration will continue to support Federal Government programmes aimed at empowering women and improving their economic status.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abeokuta when he received the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who paid him a courtesy visit.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun acknowledged the critical roles women play as home builders and contributors to national development, stressing that their voices must be heard.
He noted that his administration has implemented various empowerment programmes to support women, adding that issues affecting them have remained at the forefront of government policies.
Abiodun highlighted that the Federal Government has empowered women in agriculture, trade, vocations, and other sectors, thereby enhancing their livelihoods. He further affirmed that Ogun State has the political will to support women-focused projects and is willing to serve as a pilot state for any federal programmes designed to uplift women.
The governor commended the minister for her contributions since assuming office and pledged continued collaboration for the benefit of women in Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized that women’s empowerment remains a top priority for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. She explained that the Federal Government is working to scale up empowerment programmes across all states to help women become self-reliant and contribute to national growth.
She added that her visit to Ogun State was to review the state’s programmes for women and provide an opportunity for commissioners from Anambra, Gombe, and Zamfara, who were part of her entourage, to learn from the methods employed by the state in empowering women.
