The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Nafiu Oloyede, has urged members of the 2025 Batch B Stream II deployed to Osun State to embrace skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training during their service year.
Oloyede gave the advice on Sunday during his visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State.
He said the training would help corps members become self-employed after completing their one-year compulsory national service.
According to him, the NYSC has partnered with various organisations, including non-governmental and civil society groups, as well as ministries, departments, and agencies of government, to ensure the success of the initiative.
He explained that the skills acquisition programme would equip corps members with additional knowledge to reduce the challenges of unemployment after their service year.
“We cannot make startup capital available to all, but with financial literacy, you can build your own capital through your allowances. Do not miss the skills on camp. The reality is what you have now; make use of the opportunity because that automatic employment promised by family members may not materialise,” Oloyede said.
He advised corps members not to limit themselves to just obtaining their NYSC certificate but to take advantage of every opportunity available to them.
The NYSC DG also encouraged them to think critically and engage in meaningful ventures rather than depending solely on white-collar jobs.
“These are days of little beginnings. Don’t despise them. Use every opportunity to build yourself and make meaning in life,” he added.
Earlier, the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Obim, said the DG’s visit had boosted the morale of corps members in the state.
He disclosed that 2,500 corps members were posted from Lagos and Osun, with 1,637 assigned to Osun and 863 to Lagos.
Arise reported that the 2025 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, across all orientation camps.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has approved a new policy mandating the submission of students’ theses and final-year projects to the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank as a compulsory requirement for mobilisation into the NYSC.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s approval.
