Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspects following a violent clash between rival cult groups in the Isashi and Onireke areas of the state, which left one person dead.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Sunday, said tactical teams were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call from residents. The police operatives successfully restored normalcy to the area and reinforced their presence to prevent further violence.
According to the statement, three victims were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, while one of them was confirmed dead at the Badagry General Hospital.
“The Lagos Police arrested five suspected cultists, recovered arms, ammunition, operational vehicle, and other exhibits after the Onireke and Isashi cult clash,” the statement read.
Those arrested were identified as Victor Christian, 43; Samuel Success, 29; Balogun Emmanuel, 43; Wisdom Chukwuemeka, 28; and Oche Job, 39.
The police said the operation prevented further attacks and reassured residents of adequate security and safety in the community.
“On October 4, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m., tactical squad operatives of the Command responded to a distress call reporting a violent clash between suspected rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Lagos State. Acting swiftly, the commanders of the tactical squads and the Divisional Police Officer led crack operatives to the scene, where three victims were taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, one was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at Badagry General Hospital,” the statement added.
The command said an immediate raid of the area led to the arrest of the suspects directly linked to the attack and death of the victim. A search of their hideout and operational vehicle led to the recovery of several items.
Recovered exhibits included one locally-made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon car with registration number KTU 610 JB, an HP laptop, a computer mouse, a car key, a cutlass, an international passport belonging to Ekomafe Gregory Dickson, two Samsung phones, two iPhones, another Android phone, and a small Nokia phone.
The statement added that all recovered items have been documented as exhibits for ongoing investigation.
“The five suspects are currently detained in police custody and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation. Efforts are being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the cult groups. Tactical squads and patrol teams have been deployed to the affected area to forestall any reprisal attacks and maintain public safety,” the command stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the professionalism and swift response of the operatives, reaffirming the command’s determination to eliminate cultism and related crimes across Lagos State.
He also urged residents to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
