The University of Ilorin has announced that 11,886 students will graduate during its 40th Convocation Ceremonies, which also mark the institution’s Golden Jubilee Anniversary, celebrating 50 years of academic excellence and service to humanity.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing ahead of the convocation.
According to him, 316 students earned First Class honours, 4,120 bagged Second Class Upper Division, 5,939 Second Class Lower Division, 1,078 Third Class, while 11 finished with Pass.
He added that the graduating list also includes 175 MB;BS graduands, 94 in Nursing, 40 in Optometry, 36 in Veterinary Medicine, 64 in Physiotherapy, and 13 Diploma holders.
In addition, 1,520 higher degrees will be awarded, comprising 182 Postgraduate Diplomas, 916 Master’s Degrees, 188 Professional Master’s Degrees, and 234 PhDs across various faculties.
Egbewole stated that this year’s convocation is significant as it coincides with the university’s 50th anniversary celebration, which will take place between Sunday, November 23 and Friday, November 28, 2025.
“As the University of Ilorin celebrates 50 years of academic distinction, we look back with pride at the strides we have made in nurturing leaders, advancing knowledge, and shaping national and global development,” he said.
He described the convocation and jubilee as “a testament to five decades of unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and service to humanity.”
The Vice Chancellor also commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for its continued support to the institution. He revealed that UNILORIN received ₦2.56 billion from TETFund in the year under review, covering 11 areas such as infrastructure, staff training, ICT, and entrepreneurship.
He further mentioned that the university benefitted from a ₦300 million zonal intervention, a ₦4 billion Special High Impact Project for upgrading the College of Health Sciences, and ₦750 million for constructing a new hostel.
Egbewole also lauded the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative, describing it as a “lifeline” for students.
“I am happy to report that the University of Ilorin has secured ₦1.59 billion under NELFUND for 12,983 students across all disciplines. This ensures that no student drops out due to financial constraints,” he said.
He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and national development, adding that Unilorin will continue to produce graduates who contribute meaningfully to society.
