Stakeholders of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress have unanimously declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, urging him to seek a second term in 2027.
The decision was reached on Tuesday during the APC Stakeholders Forum 2025 held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The meeting was attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; former governors Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Akinwunmi Ambode; Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; his wife, Oluremi; and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Others present included members of the APC National Working Committee and State Working Committee, serving and former lawmakers, appointees, council chairmen, as well as traditional, religious, political, women, youth, and student leaders.
According to a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by Obasa.
In his remarks, Sanwo-Olu said Tinubu deserved another term based on his achievements and fulfillment of campaign promises.
“Our president, President Bola Tinubu, was once the 12th Governor of Lagos State. We have listened to all our stakeholders here today, and all the representatives of the Lagos APC have come to the conclusion that President Tinubu should return as our president in 2027,” he said.
Obasa, while seconding the motion, said, “In view of the submissions made by all the stakeholders and the motion just being moved by our Royal Majesty of Ikorodu, I do hereby second the motion.”
Hamzat emphasised the need for continuity, describing Tinubu’s leadership as visionary.
“As we look toward the future, we must recognise the importance of continuity. The leadership at the federal level, under the visionary guidance of His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, GCFR, has continued to demonstrate courage, vision, and commitment to national transformation,” he said.
Hamzat added that the ongoing reforms under Tinubu’s administration were driven by renewed hope and productive governance, noting that APC members must rally support for his re-election.
He also highlighted the transformation Lagos State had experienced in the last six years under Sanwo-Olu’s administration through the THEMES+ Agenda, covering transportation, health, education, economy, tourism, and governance.
“Today, Lagos stands tall as a model of excellence and a beacon of good governance. Other states continue to visit Lagos to understudy our systems—from taxation to traffic management, healthcare delivery, and urban planning,” he said.
In a lecture titled ‘Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Election in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,’ former governor Babatunde Fashola urged APC members to mobilise and engage youths ahead of the next elections.
He said, “Political party participation is based on enthusiasm. If people are enthusiastic, they will turn out to vote. But hope is not lost because we are in a season of renewed hope, and therefore we will turn it into renewed hope for our party and programmes.”
Meanwhile, the Forum of APC Local Government Party Chairmen of Nigeria, South-West Zone, also declared support for Tinubu’s re-election during its quarterly meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, vowing to mobilise grassroots support to ensure a landslide victory in 2027.
The opposition parties are also strategising ahead of the 2027 poll, with discussions on possible mergers gaining momentum.
The Labour Party faction loyal to Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has insisted that only a united front can unseat Tinubu.
The LP’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Prince Tony Akeni, in an interview, urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to support Obi’s presidential ambition if he truly wishes to rescue Nigeria.
“Tinubu will be the easiest incumbent in the world to defeat in 2027. The only thing that can prevent that is if Atiku insists that he must be President at all costs,” Akeni said.
