Manchester United recorded their third straight Premier League victory with a 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Ruben Amorim’s side opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Matheus Cunha netted his first goal for the club. Casemiro doubled the lead ten minutes later with a deflected effort to give United a comfortable advantage before halftime.
Bryan Mbeumo extended the lead early in the second half, but former United striker Danny Welbeck pulled one back for Brighton with a well-taken free-kick. Charalampos Kostoulas reduced the deficit further in stoppage time, but Mbeumo sealed the victory with his second goal deep into added time.
The result moved Manchester United temporarily into fourth place in the Premier League table.
First Half
Both teams took the knee before kick-off as part of the Premier League’s ‘No Room For Racism’ campaign. United started brightly, with Bruno Fernandes and Cunha going close early on. Despite two penalty appeals waved away by referee Anthony Taylor, United broke the deadlock when Casemiro set up Cunha to curl a fine effort into the bottom corner.
Casemiro made it 2-0 soon after when his long-range strike took a heavy deflection off Yasin Ayari. United maintained control heading into halftime, showing no signs of easing off.
Second Half
After the break, Brighton struggled to find rhythm, and a misplaced pass allowed Benjamin Sesko to set up Mbeumo, who fired home United’s third. Old Trafford erupted as fans chanted for Amorim and the team.
Brighton pulled one back when Welbeck scored from a free-kick in the 74th minute. The visitors increased pressure late on, with Kostoulas heading in a corner to make it 3-2 in stoppage time.
However, United restored their two-goal cushion moments later as Fernandes cleverly dummied a pass from substitute Ayden Heaven, allowing Mbeumo to smash home his second goal and secure all three points.
