Jules Kounde scored twice as Barcelona came from behind to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in a UEFA Champions League match at the Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday.
The German side took the lead in the 21st minute when Ansgar Knauff ran onto a pass from Nathaniel Brown, held off Alejandro Balde, and finished past goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
Barcelona responded strongly in the second half following the introduction of Marcus Rashford at the break. The England forward made an immediate impact in the 50th minute, delivering a cross from the left that Kounde headed home to draw the hosts level.
Just three minutes later, Kounde completed his brace, meeting Lamine Yamal’s delivery from close range while unmarked to give Barcelona the lead.
The victory moves Barcelona to 10 points from six matches in the Champions League league phase, keeping them in contention for a top-eight finish and automatic qualification to the last 16. Hansi Flick’s side will face Slavia Prague away on January 21 before concluding the league phase at home against Copenhagen a week later.
Eintracht Frankfurt, who are seventh in the Bundesliga, remain on four points from six games and face the risk of elimination from European competition.
The match marked Barcelona’s first Champions League game at the Camp Nou in more than three years, following the stadium’s partial reopening after redevelopment. The club last played a Champions League fixture there in October 2022.
Rashford, who is on loan from Manchester United, described the experience of playing at the Camp Nou as special and said the focus was on securing the points. He noted that Barcelona reacted well after conceding and controlled much of the game.
Barcelona had opportunities to extend their lead, while Frankfurt missed chances to score a second goal in the first half through Ellyes Skhiri and Fares Chaibi. The hosts’ only setback was a second-half booking for Yamal, which rules the teenager out of the trip to Prague through suspension.
Kounde’s two goals proved decisive, sealing an important win for the five-time European champions as they continue their push for qualification.
