President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s Armed Forces and security agencies to end insecurity in the country “decisively and without delay.” In his Easter message, Tinubu acknowledged recent violent incidents, expressing sympathy for victims and reaffirming his administration’s resolve to restore peace.
He assured Nigerians that efforts to revive the economy were beginning to yield results, with progress being made toward investor confidence and sector stability. Tinubu also extended Easter greetings to Christians nationwide and prayed for Pope Francis’ continued recovery.
Following his directive, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered all state commands to increase security visibility, intelligence gathering, and patrols—especially around churches, highways, and recreational areas. Various state police commands including Lagos, Abia, Kwara, Jigawa, Akwa Ibom, and Kogi announced intensified measures to ensure a peaceful celebration.
In the North, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, praised Tinubu’s impact, saying the president is the region’s “greatest asset” in the fight against insecurity. He noted that operations like Fansan Yamma have eliminated over 65 bandit leaders and dismantled more than 200 camps.
Matawalle criticized past leaders for failure and misinformation while commending Tinubu’s revival of major infrastructure projects in the North such as the Zaria–Gusau–Sokoto and Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highways. He urged cooperation from citizens to ensure lasting peace.
