Governors across the country have paid glowing tributes to the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, following his passing.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, expressed his sympathies to the people and government of Ogun State. He described the monarch as a towering cultural icon and a symbol of unity and honour whose leadership brought significant prestige to Ijebuland.
Governor AbdulRazaq praised the courage and commitment of the late Oba, noting the transformational impact of his over 60 years on the throne.
Similarly, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, described Oba Adetona’s legacy as indelible. He said the monarch’s reign was marked by service, sacrifice, humility, and a strong dedication to the preservation of culture and tradition.
“The late Awujale oozed royalty, class, colour, dignity, and honour in his lifetime, but yet remained humble in his day-to-day royal duties to the benefit of his subjects,” Oyebanji said.
He added that Oba Adetona offered wise counsel to those in authority and served as an example of how leadership could drive community development. The governor noted the loss came just hours after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the timing as a double tragedy for the nation.
Oyebanji prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and comfort for his family, the people of Ijebuland, and Ogun State at large.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, also mourned the late monarch, describing his death as the end of a glorious era. In a statement from Ibadan, Governor Makinde extended his condolences to Governor Dapo Abiodun and the people of Ogun State.
He described Oba Adetona as a symbol of royal excellence, noting that his reign represented the height and beauty of traditional leadership.
The governors collectively praised the monarch’s decades-long reign, noting that his visionary leadership and cultural impact would remain in the hearts of Nigerians.
