Nottingham Forest’s poor run in the Premier League continued on Saturday as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea, extending manager Ange Postecoglou’s winless streak to eight matches.
Taiwo Awoniyi made his first start of the season, and Forest began brightly with a few early chances, including one for Elliot Anderson, who was crowded out in the box after a Chelsea defensive mistake. Morgan Gibbs-White also missed a close-range volley, while Andrey Santos went close after a clever pass from João Pedro.
Chelsea, who were without key players such as Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo, struggled to create much in the first half but found their rhythm after the break. Pedro Neto raced down the left wing to set up Josh Acheampong for the opener. Three minutes later, Neto doubled the lead with a superb free-kick.
Forest’s defence continued to falter, with Igor Jesus seeing a header from Callum Hudson-Odoi hit both the bar and post. Reece James sealed the victory late on, firing home from a half-cleared corner. Chelsea defender Malo Gusto was later sent off, slightly dampening an otherwise dominant display.
The defeat piles more pressure on Forest’s manager, as club owner Evangelos Marinakis was seen leaving the stands before the final whistle. Chelsea, meanwhile, have now won four of their last five visits to The City Ground, maintaining their strong record against Forest.
