The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, on Monday, commissioned a series of impactful constituency projects facilitated by the member representing Yewa North II State Constituency, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun.
The commissioned projects include newly constructed classroom blocks, office and store spaces, modern toilet facilities, and functional boreholes across several communities in Yewa North Local Government, such as Ijoun, Eggua, Oja Odan, Laditan, Gbokoto Isale Ketu, and Ebute Igbooro.
The Hon. The speaker was accompanied by other members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, including the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Lateefat Ajayi; Hon. Babatunde Tella; Hon. Lukmon Atobatele; Hon. Oluseun Adesanya (Barr.); Hon. Samusideen Lawal; Hon. Yusuf Amosun; Hon. Ayodele Wasiu; Hon. Dickson Awolaja; Hon. Damilare Bello; Hon. Adebisi Oyedele; and Hon. Awoso Olagoke, among others.
Others in attendance were the party leader, Chief Olu Agemo; the Party Chairman, Chief Adeosun Adekunle; Hon. Job Akintan; , the Senatorial Women Leader, Mercy Sandra, the Local Government Vice Chairman, Mr. Ilori, Hon. Oduntan; alongside other ward and local government leaders.
Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Elemide commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his magnanimity and commitment to grassroots development, describing the projects as a reflection of the administration’s inclusive governance.
He noted that for the first time in the history of the House, lawmakers were directly allowed to identify, supervise, and deliver projects in their constituencies without going through any ministry or agency.
According to him, “If not for the cooperation and magnanimity of our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, we wouldn’t have achieved this. The governor approved our proposals, released funds directly to contractors, and gave us the opportunity to ensure quality delivery.”
Rt. Hon. Elemide also commended Hon. Egungbohun for his passion and consistent advocacy for Ogun West, particularly on road and community development issues.
He urged the people of Yewa North to support Egungbohun’s return to the House, saying, “This constituency produced the first lawmaker to serve three terms in the Assembly. If you allow Hon. Egungbohun, another term, he will equal that record.
The Speaker therefore urged the community members, teachers, and students to take good care of the facilities and ensure their sustainability.
In his opening address, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun appreciated Governor Abiodun for his support and the opportunity given to lawmakers to execute meaningful projects in their constituencies.
He also commended the speaker, his colleagues in the assembly, the royal fathers, party leaders, and supporters for their encouragement and cooperation.
According to him, “I appreciate His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for trusting us to bring development closer to our people. I also thank our speaker for his leadership and the entire house for their unity of purpose. I must also appreciate our royal fathers, who have always guided and supported us in ensuring that projects like these are meaningful and impactful.”
Hon. Egungbohun urged teachers, students, and community members to take ownership of the newly commissioned facilities and ensure proper maintenance.
He assured them that more developmental projects would soon reach other parts of the constituency.
While speaking on the challenges facing the area, the lawmaker decried the poor state of roads and the lack of adequate water supply across communities in Ketu.
He said, “Mr. Speaker Sir, you have always witnessed my worries and efforts as I constantly complain about the deplorable condition of roads across Ketu communities. I want to use this medium to once again plead for support on this issue. As I speak, there is hardly any major state road construction within the Ketu axis.”
He also called for the establishment of a tertiary institution in the Ketu area to boost educational development and reduce rural-urban migration.
His words “We also need a tertiary institution in Ketu. I believe that very soon, when the state is eventually divided, our area will be considered for a local government of its own. We are hopeful that our plea will receive the attention it deserves.
