Ogun Lawmaker, Hon Wahab Congratulates NUJ Chairman On Re-election, Tasks New Executive On Responsible Leadership

Member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Yewa North II State Constituency, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun has congratulated Comrade Wale Olanrewaju on his re-election as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, describing the victory as a clear endorsement of purposeful leadership.

The lawmaker also congratulated the Union Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, and other elected executive members of the Union.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.

Hon. Egungbohun noted that the confidence reposed in the Olanrewaju-led team by journalists across the state reflects their appreciation of stability, inclusiveness, and dedication to the ideals of the profession.

He commended members of the NUJ for conducting themselves with maturity and professionalism throughout the electoral process, stressing that a peaceful and credible election strengthens the voice and integrity of the media in a democratic society.

The lawmaker also acknowledged the emergence of new members of the Executive Council, urging them to see their election as a call to greater service, accountability, and teamwork in advancing the collective interest of journalists in Ogun State.

While congratulating the leadership, Hon. Egungbohun charged the re-elected executives to prioritise the welfare of journalists, uphold ethical standards, protect press freedom, and promote continuous capacity building in the face of evolving media challenges.

He encouraged the new NUJ leadership to remain open, transparent, and responsive to members while fostering unity within the council and constructive engagement with government and other stakeholders.

Hon. Egungbohun therefore expressed optimism that the second term of the Wale Olanrewaju-led administration would record more tangible achievements that would positively impact journalists and strengthen the role of the media in societal development.
