The Abia State Police Command has arrested a couple, Sunday Emebo and Blessing Emebo, for allegedly trafficking twelve children in Aba, Abia State.
DSP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the command, disclosed that the children — aged between six and fourteen months — were rescued from the couple’s apartment, which was being used as an illegal and unregistered motherless babies home on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.
She explained that the arrest was made on May 19, 2025, following credible intelligence received by the police. The couple is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
The rescued children have since been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of not leaving children in the care of unfamiliar individuals. The command reiterated its commitment to reducing crime and ensuring the safety of all residents in the state.
